Black Women & Self Defense Zine
$6.00 Sold Out
The subject of this zine is something that I've wanted to write about for a while. It is for all self identifying Black women as well as anyone who is looking to reclaim their personal space in the streets and public spaces. In this zine, I share my thoughts on how difficult it can be sometimes to walk the streets alone and to find ways of defending ourselves by any means necessary.
I would like to point out that this is not a step by step guide on how to make a proper fist, escape from a grab/hold or counter attack. There are so many resources out there to learn those skills. This zine is definitely more of a reflective look on how we walk in the world as Black women and how we can create more safety and peace within our lives as we navigate the multitude of public spaces we occupy.
Just like my zine, Black Women & Self Care, this zine is written, published, designed, illustrated, printed and bound in Toronto by my myself. For the front and back covers, I used images I found from the internet and modified them accordingly. This zine is 23 pages long and has a bright orange cover and back (a lot brighter than what appears in photos) and on the inside is white paper with black words.
A reminder that most zines do not have fancy publishers and editors, there will be glitches along the way. It is the content and the intent behind this zine that I hope will be more of importance to you. I do believe that some of what I share will resonate with you and please share with others who you think may benefit from this zine.
